Three of my boys are Italian and, before I adopted them, they grew up eating amazing Italian food made by their mom and family. No kidding, my cooking skills are just not up to the same level. And, honestly, they probably never will be! Their mom is an amazing cook, and add to that, she has family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Sigh…I do try though, and I feel like I do better now than I used to. One of these days, I am going to make a homemade spaghetti sauce from scratch. One that simmers in the pot all day long and makes everyone hungry every time they walk into the house! So far, I have looked for recipes, and that is about as far as I have got on that! But, the day is coming!
Hopefully, it’s before all my kids move out of the house!
Despite the fact that I don’t have a homemade sauce recipe, I can make a pretty quick and delicious stromboli! This recipe is so simple and everyone in the house likes it! I made two rolls tonight, but I should have made another one, probably two, at least. It was not enough!
It seriously smelled so good that two kiddos who were over visiting ended up inviting themselves for dinner!
My Stromboli is simple to make and, from start to finish, dinner is on the table in less than 45 minutes.
Here is the recipe! I hope your family loves it as much as mine!
Stromboli
An Italian dish that the whole family will love!
Ingredients
- 1 can refrigerated pizza dough
- 1/2 pound mild Italian sausage
- 1/2 package Pepperoni
- 1 cup pasta sauce
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
-
Cook Italian sausage in pan until browned. Drain.
-
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
-
Place parchment paper on a cookie sheet lightly flour. Spread dough out to form a large rectangle.
-
Spread a thin layer of sauce on dough. Layer on cheese then sausage. Place a layer of pepperoni on top.
-
Starting on long side of dough, carefully roll one third of Stromboli. Using parchment, roll dough again until reaching opposite end. Pinch ends together. Gently press seam closed.
-
Brush egg over Stromboli and sprinkle with Italian Seasoning to taste.
-
Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, until top in nicely golden. Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes.
-
Serve with warm sauce.
Now. Does anyone have any other recommendations for amazing Italian recipes?
How about homemade spaghetti sauce? Anyone??
Happy eating!!
